A Taste of the Galway Races

Grá Chocolates has produced a limited-edition box of Galway Races inspired chocolates. There are five flavours to choose from, each bespoke chocolate inspired by memories and flavours of the Galway Races through the years from members of Gráinne’s family, including Irish racehorse trainer Willie Mullins, his late mother Maureen, Gráinne’s father Eric, and CEO of Galway Racecourse Michael Moloney.

This limited edition box of chocolates has been made especially for the Galway Races.
It has been carefully created to embody everything that The Galway Races is.

The Galway Races has always had a special place in Gráinne's heart. It’s a place to gather and celebrate, a week that makes the city come alive and showcases the best of Galway. She grew up attending the Galway Races with her grandfather, Captain Luke Mullins so to be able to be a part of it with Grá Chocolates is really an honour. Creating the bespoke box of Grá Chocolates for the Galway Races made so many of her childhood memories come alive and she hopes visitors to the Galway Races enjoy them as much as she enjoyed making them.

After one bite, the burst of flavour will take you away to the Killanin Stand on Ladies Day.

All chocolate products should be stored in a cool and dark place, with a humidity index lower than 40%. Refrigeration is not recommended as it will damage the aesthetic and texture of the chocolate.

The Track

The filling is inspired by Gráinne's memories of getting a Toblerone on the way out by the hawkers. Soft hazelnut nougat is made using the finest of hazelnuts. Caramelised hazelnut pieces add the perfect crunch. Finished with a luxurious hazelnut praline which elevates the rounded notes of the milk chocolate shell. Concept behind the design: Inspired by the green grass of the race course.

The Hurdle

The flavours of Turkish Delight in a milk chocolate shell were the favourites of Grainne's grandfather Captain Luke Mullins. Smooth Turkish delight bursting with rose is a heavenly match with our 35% milk chocolate shell. Concept behind the design: Inspired by her Grandfather's race colours.

Ladies Day

The peach filling wrapped in a white chocolate shell is inspired by Grainne's father’s memories of eating ripe peaches as a child at every race meet. Fruitful and sweet this white chocolate shell is filled with a beautiful peach and vanilla compote. Fresh white peaches have been selected for the making of this compote and it is paired with fragramatic Madagascan vanilla pods. Concept behind the design: The yellow and pink colours represent the bold colours and fashion of Ladies Day.

Killanin

The sea salt ganache was chosen to invoke the sea salt in the air from Galway Bay and the view of Salthill from the Killanin stand. A silky smooth ganache is made using flakes of Achill Island Sea Salt from Co. Mayo. This is perfectly paired with a rich dark chocolate. Concept behind the design: Inspired by Willie Mullins' race colours.

The Galway Plate

For Michael Maloney strawberries and cream are the flavours that represent the perfectly ripe strawberries that are in season at the time of the Galway Races. The freshest of summer strawberries are picked to create an oozing strawberry compote. This matches to perfection with our beautiful white chocolate ganache which is made using Irish cream. Concept behind the design: The red and gold are designed to represent the Galway Races Logo.
